Q: Is FUSIONDB Open Source?

No. Sorry, but not yet!

At present there are still difficult questions to answer around the sustainability of Open Source, and its possible exploitation by large Cloud service providers. We have been closely monitoring the positions of other large Open Source (or Source Available) NoSQL databases, Cloud service providers, the OSI, and the FSF.

If you are unsure what the current Open Source licensing worries faced by infrastructure software providers are, then one such article on the subject, due to its entrenched position, serves as an interesting introduction!

We at FusionDB truly believe in Open Source. As such, we will continue to monitor the situation as development progresses through Alphas, Betas, and towards a Version 1 Release.

We likely envisage FusionDB being released under dual licensing - Open Source, and Commercial; Whereby FusionDB source code is available to all, and usable by all, however commercial projects wishing to build products with FusionDB would need to obtain a commercial license. Our immediate goal is to find the right licensing balance for both us, and our users.
